Our commitment to accessibility
We are committed to making this website accessible to everyone, including people who use assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, speech recognition or keyboard-only navigation. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at level AA, which is the standard widely used to judge accessibility in the UK.
Accessibility matters particularly on a site like this, where people may be researching money worries under stress. Clear, readable and navigable pages are part of how we try to be genuinely useful.
Measures we take
We aim to build and maintain the site so that it is perceivable, operable, understandable and robust. In practice this includes:
Semantic HTML
Pages use meaningful headings, landmarks, lists and tables so that structure is conveyed to assistive technologies, not just shown visually.
Keyboard navigation
Interactive elements are reachable and operable with a keyboard alone, and a "skip to content" link helps you bypass repeated navigation.
Visible focus states
Links, buttons and form fields show a clear focus indicator so you can see where you are when navigating by keyboard.
Colour contrast
We aim for text and essential interface elements to meet the WCAG 2.2 AA contrast requirements against their backgrounds.
Reduced motion
Where motion is used, we aim to respect the "reduced motion" preference set in your operating system or browser.
Responsive design
Layouts adapt to different screen sizes and support zooming and text resizing without loss of content or function.
Accessible calculators
The interactive calculators, such as the debt consolidation calculator and the debt-to-income ratio calculator, are built to be used with a keyboard and with assistive technology. Form fields have associated labels, and results are presented in live regions so that updates are announced to screen reader users rather than appearing silently.
Known limitations
We are continuing to review and improve accessibility, and some content may not yet fully meet the standard we aim for. Any known issues should be listed here so that visitors know what to expect.
Reporting an accessibility problem
If you find any part of this website difficult to use, or come across a barrier we have not mentioned, we would like to hear from you so we can put it right. Please get in touch through our contact page, describing the page and the problem and, if you can, the browser and assistive technology you were using.
Review and status of this statement
We intend to review this statement regularly and whenever the site changes significantly, updating it to reflect the current state of accessibility.
