Who runs this site

Debt Consolidation Loan is an independent publisher of educational information about debt consolidation and related money topics in the United Kingdom. Our aim is narrow and deliberate. We explain how consolidation loans and the alternatives actually work, in plain English, so you can weigh up your own situation and decide what to do next.

We have no ties to any lender, broker, bank or debt-solution provider. Nothing here is a sales pitch for a particular product, and we earn no commission for pointing you towards one lender rather than another. When we describe how a type of borrowing behaves, we are describing the mechanics, not telling you to take it out.

Why this site exists

Money decisions are hard enough without jargon, pressure and half-explained small print. We set out to publish information that holds to a few simple standards.

  • Clear. Plain English, defined terms, and worked examples that are always labelled as illustrative rather than live offers.
  • Balanced. We give the risks of consolidation the same weight as the benefits. Where borrowing is secured against your home, we say plainly that your property may be at risk if you do not keep up repayments.
  • Honest about limits. Consolidation restructures debt; it does not write it off. We say so, and we point to free help when that is the better route.
  • Independent. Our explanations are not shaped by what any lender would like you to believe.

If you want to see how we apply those standards in practice, our editorial policy and how we research financial information pages set out the detail.

What we do not do

We are not a lender, a credit broker, a financial adviser or a debt-solution provider. We do not offer loans, process applications, give quotes, carry out credit checks, or provide personal or regulated financial advice. We cannot tell you which product to choose or arrange any borrowing for you.

Because we sell nothing, there is no application form here and no "apply now" button that passes your details to a third party. If you decide a consolidation loan is right for you, you would approach a regulated lender or broker directly, and any advice about your personal circumstances should come from a suitably qualified and regulated source.

How to use the information here

Think of us as a well-organised reference library rather than a shop. We cover the core topic in our pillar guide to debt consolidation loans, explain the mechanics in how debt consolidation works, and help you weigh the choices in comparing your options. Read what is relevant, treat the figures as examples, and check the real terms before you commit to anything. For anyone who may be struggling, the most useful thing we can do is point to free, impartial help.

Free debt advice

Free, confidential and impartial debt advice is available from MoneyHelper, StepChange, National Debtline and Citizens Advice. There is never a charge for their help.
